I don't write book reviews. This is simply because I read predominantly free books on my Kindle. I figure they are written by new authors and I don't like to discourage other people from reading their books even though I didn't like them. This book, however, is a joy to write a review for. The book was not a fluff romance where boy meets girl, they experience some conflict and then they end up with a happily ever after. This book had some real development of not only the main characters but also the supporting characters. I felt like I knew them pretty well by the end of the book. I wasn't even sure which guy I should root for in the first part of the book! Or even if the book had a happy ending at all! I finished reading the book in 2 days even with my busy lifestyle. I wanted to keep reading it, as it was a very interesting plot. I wouldn't be adverse to buying another book in the series, however, I did see that one reviewer said some of the later books might not be as squeaky clean as this one. I am a strong believer that even though a book is classified as a romance, it does not require steamy sex scenes to make the book a great read. I will not buy a book if I know there are explicit sex scenes in the book. I appreciate the heads up that some reviewers (and even some authors) give us readers about how clean or how hot and steamy a book is. I would recommend this book to any age.Tags : Amazon.com: Someone Else's Fairytale eBook: E.M. Tippetts: Kindle Store,ebook,E.M. Someone Else Fairytale eBook EM Tippetts Reviews
Finally got around to reading this book. Now I wish I would have read it sooner. Loved the strong characters and storyline. You can tell that this six book series is going to be a doozy.
I am intrigued by Chloe and how she is turning her childhood trauma into crime solving and yet is attracting to the movie actor Jason. As they become closer, he questions his contributions compared to hers. They are so cute together. And, I love when he takes her back to where he first saw her at 5am.
The rest of the series looks promising and must get them on my Goodreads List. In the meantime I'm definitely recommending this book for your reading pleasure and enjoyment.
After reading the book's description, I thought this would be a fun and fluffy read. Unfortunately, the dialogue (and there is a lot) is no fun at all. There is very little wit, cleverness, or humor, making the interactions between characters often boring and skim worthy. I understand that in real life, people often stammer and pause during conversations, searching for the right words to say, but goodness gracious! Being forced to read "yeah...." or "um....yeah" with a few "whatever's" sprinkled throughout is just painful. These are not teenagers. Most of the characters are college educated adults, yet they do such a poor job of expressing themselves. Even their declarations of love felt more awkward than romantic.
I wanted so much to like the main character because I respect her position on waiting to have sex (if not until marriage, at least until she's older), but then her personality got in the way. Her obvious disdain for the movie star's fame and lifestyle was over the top and a bit unbelievable. Even the most unaffected person would at some point think it's pretty cool that a movie star is interested in her, while still maintaining an appropriate amount of "yeah, whatever" attitude.
For me, the best storyline in the book is not the "romance" but the trauma that occurred in the main character's childhood. When she finally describes what she endured as a child, I was on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately, her description only lasts for a couple of pages, and that entire part of the plot seems to get resolved about halfway through the book, leaving me to plod through the rest of her awkward romance with only a token rebellious teenage character left to distract me.
As a teenager, I probably would have loved this book because it's clean...no sex or bad language.....and what girl (except the main character, of course) doesn't want to be swept away by a movie star who turns out to be a decent guy? However, as an adult, I've read too many good books to consider this to be one. I have much higher standards for my main characters than what Ms. Tippetts offers.
First of all, the cover has nothing to do with the story. I don't get it. The story doesn't take place in any beach/tropical locations, and I'm also bothered by it for another reason (SPOILER the MC has scars from gunshot wounds that would presumably be visible if she were attired in this fashion).
More importantly, I just didn't get invested in most of the characters for some reason. There were parts of the book where I could empathize with some of them, but also a lot of parts where I couldn't understand why they made the choices they did (or in some cases, why they couldn't just come right out and say what needed to be said). Also, the writing somehow just doesn't make me feel the characters' emotions or feel much interest in what happens. I did finish the book, but it just didn't grab me emotionally and the story was interesting in some parts but in some parts felt too easily resolved.
The story has potential but the writing is dragging it down. The cover is a little deceiving. I expected the main character, Chloe, would be quirky & spunky like the cover girl but she just really falls flat. I know she is written to be indifferent to money & fame but she mostly comes off rude, independent to the point of selfishness, and clueless to other people's feelings around her.
I liked the story but small annoying writing issues really pulled me out of it. A lot of her questions are truncated statements with a ? at the end of them. That may be how some people talk but it doesn't come across well in writing. Incomplete sentences riddled almost every page. There's also many chunks of dialog that aren't labeled so it's hard to tell who is talking sometimes.
Overall, just ok.
